Apply now! Expert Group “Trusted AI”
Become part of the Catena-X Trusted AI Expert Group and help shape the foundations for responsible, transparent, and sovereign AI use across the automotive data ecosystem — defining the standards, governance principles, and architecture patterns that will make cross-company AI trustworthy, auditable, and compliant by design.
We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the Expert Group “Trusted AI”. Applications are accepted until August 4, 2026.
Purpose
Artificial Intelligence has become a decisive competitive lever across the automotive value chain — from supply chain optimization and quality management to autonomous driving and sustainability reporting. As AI adoption grows, so does the urgency to ensure these systems are trustworthy, governed, and compliant — particularly considering evolving legal frameworks such as the EU AI Act.
In a collaborative data space like Catena-X, trust is the prerequisite for data sharing and ecosystem value creation. The Expert Group Trusted AI establishes the foundations for responsible, transparent, sovereign, and auditable AI use across the Catena-X automotive data ecosystem, defining the rules and patterns so that AI services can be registered, discovered, contracted, and governed across organizational boundaries.
Key Goals
- AI Scope Definition: Assessment and alignment of AI needs across Catena-X business domains, including reference scenarios and risk hotspots
- Architecture Reference Patterns: Development of trusted AI usage patterns (Distributed Learning, Distributed Inference, Multi-Agent Interaction, Policy-Governed AI Execution, Ecosystem Intelligence & Optimization)
- Standardization: Definition of policy and semantic specifications for AI usage constraints across companies, forming the first Catena-X AI Standard
- Conformity & Compliance: Derivation of Conformity Assessment Body criteria and adaptation of controls to relevant regulatory scenarios
- Trusted AI Asset Model: Definition of the minimum metadata every Catena-X AI asset must expose (capability, usage purpose, restrictions, provider/consumer roles, responsibility boundaries)
- Cross-Group Alignment: Close collaboration with related Expert Groups (e.g., SSI, Data Space Connectivity) to ensure consistency
The work covers strategic, technical, governance, and regulatory aspects.
Why participate?
- Strategic Influence: Actively shape how AI is responsibly embedded into the automotive data ecosystem and define industry-wide trust standards
- Regulatory Foresight: Gain unparalleled insights into cutting-edge AI patterns and the evolving regulatory landscape (incl. EU AI Act)
- Ecosystem Leadership: Contribute to Catena-X standards, conformity criteria, and reference patterns that will be adopted across an entire industry
- Expert Network: Collaborate with an interdisciplinary network of leading experts from OEMs, suppliers, SMEs, and technology providers
Who should apply?
Professionals with proven expertise in at least one of the following fields:
- Catena-X Foundation: solid understanding of governance, operational, and architecture aspects
- AI and Trust Technologies: machine learning, generative AI, AI agents, explainability, robustness, or related trust-enabling technologies
- Systems & Dataspace Architecture: federated systems, cybersecurity, or trust infrastructures
- Regulatory Expertise: familiarity with the evolving AI regulatory landscape and its implications for industrial AI deployment
We are looking for 10–15 members across the industry (OEMs, suppliers of different sizes and materials, SMEs, technology providers). A minimum availability of 20 hours per month is required for core members. Applicants who cannot meet this commitment are welcome to join the review group (approx. 8 hours per month). We are also seeking a Lead and Co-Lead for this Expert Group (approx. 4 hours per week additional effort).
Further information and detailed requirements can be found in the Trusted AI Expert Group profile.
