We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the Expert Group “PCF Interoperability and Architecture”. Applications are accepted until August 4, 2026.

Purpose

The Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) has become a cornerstone of sustainability reporting and regulatory compliance across the automotive value chain. Catena-X has developed and maintains standards enabling the exchange of PCF-related data — including calculation rules, ontologies, data models, and Eclipse Dataspace Components/Connectors. As the ecosystem of PCF-relevant data exchange applications (COTS and FOSS) continues to grow, ensuring their technical interoperability becomes essential.

In a collaborative data space like Catena-X, seamless data exchange is the prerequisite for creating ecosystem value and meeting evolving regulatory demands. The Expert Group PCF Interoperability and Architecture ensures that PCF solutions remain compatible, compliant, and future-proof — by continuously evolving the PCF exchange standard CX-0136, aligning applications with Catena-X standards, and coordinating technical and architectural concepts across sustainability use cases and adjacent ecosystems (e.g., WBCSD PACT, TfS, Manufacturing-X).

Key Goals

  • Standard Evolution: Update and further development of the PCF exchange standard CX-0136 and the underlying PCF data model
  • Methodology Compliance: Ensure alignment with the evolving calculation methodology defined in the Catena-X PCF Rulebook
  • Interoperability Assurance: Identify, prioritize, and monitor interoperability weak spots between Catena-X certified solutions within single use cases
  • Test Case Development: Set up test cases supporting interoperability testing for existing and new solution providers
  • Cross-Initiative Alignment: Assure interoperability with other relevant initiatives and ecosystems (e.g., WBCSD PACT, TfS, Manufacturing-X)
  • Cross-Use-Case Coordination: Ensure interoperability across other Catena-X use cases (e.g., CBAM, DPP, Industry Core)
  • KIT & Standard Release: Update and release use-case-specific KITs and standards jointly with use-case-specific expert groups (e.g., PCF KIT, CX-0136)

The work covers technical, architectural, and standardization aspects of PCF data exchange.

Why participate?

  • Shape Industry Standards: Co-shape PCF exchange standards by actively contributing to CX-0136 and the PCF data model
  • First-Hand Feedback: Receive and share direct user feedback on standards and applications
  • Team-Based Compliance: Make compliance a joint effort to keep pace with evolving regulations
  • Ecosystem Competitiveness: Keep the Catena-X ecosystem competitive through collaboration among technical and subject matter experts
  • Cross-Industry Impact: Contribute to cross-industry standards enhancing feasibility, regulatory alignment, and automation

Who should apply?

Professionals with proven expertise in at least one of the following fields:

  • PCF Expertise: hands-on experience with Product Carbon Footprint calculation, exchange, or related sustainability data
  • IT & Data Modelling: strong IT background with a special demand for data modelling experts
  • Catena-X Standards: knowledge of Catena-X standards (e.g., CX-0136, Eclipse Dataspace Components/Connectors, ontologies) is a strong plus
  • Interoperability & Architecture: experience with technical interoperability, architecture concepts, or standardization work across ecosystems

We are looking for committed members across the industry (OEMs, suppliers of different sizes, SMEs, technology providers, and solution providers). A minimum availability of 10 hours per month is required, including participation in bi-/weekly meetings. We are especially seeking data modelling experts — please nominate suitable candidates from your organization.

Further information and detailed requirements can be found in the PCF Interoperability and Architecture Expert Group profile.
