Apply now! Expert Group "Exchange Patterns"
Become part of the new Exchange Patterns Expert Group and help shape the reusable exchange patterns that serve as architecture guardrails for the Catena-X Use Case Foundation Layer — consolidating exchange requirements across business domains, reducing fragmentation, and enabling the first exchange-pattern-compliant use cases by Release 27.09.
We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the new Exchange Patterns Expert Group.
Purpose
Today, Catena-X use cases often define data exchange concepts individually, leading to fragmented implementations, limited reuse, and rising complexity as the ecosystem grows. The Exchange Patterns Expert Group will establish a common set of reusable exchange patterns as architecture guardrails — a key element of the Catena-X Use Case Foundation Layer — ensuring a consistent approach to data exchange across all business domains and use cases.
Key Goals
- Reusable Exchange Patterns: Translate common exchange requirements into standardised, reusable patterns that become the preferred approach for interoperable Catena-X solutions.
- Alignment with Semantics: Coordinate closely with the Semantics Expert Group to ensure exchange and semantic requirements evolve consistently.
- First Compliant Use Cases: Establish the first exchange-pattern-compliant use cases by Release 27.09.
Deliverables
- Definition of the Catena-X Exchange Pattern Framework and its architecture guardrails.
- Consolidation of exchange requirements into reusable patterns across business domains.
- Governance and guidance on pattern selection and compliance during the release process.
- Migration support for existing use cases towards approved patterns.
- Alignment with Semantics experts on exchange, semantic, and implementation considerations.
- A stable integration foundation abstracting from technical protocols for resilient, reliable components.
Why participate?
- Direct Influence: Shape how data exchange is designed and standardised across Catena-X.
- Foundational Impact: Contribute to the Use Case Foundation Layer — improving interoperability, accelerating adoption, and increasing reuse.
- Unique Opportunity: Influence a capability that will affect every future Catena-X use case and enable scaling.
Who should apply?
Experts with strong expertise in at least one of the following:
- Catena-X Knowledge: Architecture principles, standards, and core concepts.
- Implementation Experience: Hands-on Catena-X use case implementation, ideally with interoperability and data exchange insight.
- Use Case Architecture: Designing, evaluating, or standardising data exchange concepts.
- Integration Expertise: API design, messaging, event-driven architectures, idempotency, and operational resilience.
Commitment
A significant time commitment is expected throughout the next year, including intensive working sessions and one or more multi-day workshops during 2026, starting in September, alongside regular meetings.
