TÜV Rheinland Officially Nominated as Catena-X Certified Conformity Assessment Body
Strengthening trust and compliance in the global automotive data ecosystem
Catena-X has officially nominated TÜV Rheinland, the independent international testing and certification organization, as a Catena-X Conformity Assessment Body (CAB). This designation enables TÜV Rheinland to provide independent conformity assessment services based on the Catena-X certification catalog and certification manual.
For the automotive industry, which is entering a new stage of intelligent and connected development, trusted data exchange has become mission-critical. Data is the core driver of digitalization, transparency, and sustainability. Ensuring interoperability, security, and compliance across complex supply chains is therefore essential to unlock efficiency, resilience, and circularity in the global value chain.
Catena-X was created as a joint initiative of the automotive industry – uniting manufacturers, suppliers, and partners – with the mission to establish a global, open, and standardized data ecosystem. Its goal is to move beyond fragmented and regional data silos by providing a trusted governance framework for collaboration across the entire value chain. Within this framework, Catena-X addresses key industry challenges: enabling seamless supply chain data interaction, ensuring transparent and reliable carbon emissions reporting, strengthening resilience across supply and value networks, and supporting product circularity throughout the full lifecycle.
As a Catena-X Conformity Assessment Body, TÜV Rheinland will now support companies in the ecosystem with:
- Trusted data interoperability: validating that digital systems comply with Catena-X standards for secure and efficient data exchange.
- Information security management and assessment: confirming that participating companies hold relevant security certifications such as ISO 27001 or TISAX, safeguarding compliance across the ecosystem.
Hanno Focken, Managing Director of the Catena-X Association, highlighted the importance of this step:
“We are delighted to expand our ecosystem globally and welcome TÜV Rheinland as a Catena-X Conformity Assessment Body in China. Certification Assessment Bodies play a vital role in ensuring interoperability, security, and trust across the entire network. With TÜV Rheinland taking on this responsibility in the Chinese region and beyond, we strengthen the foundation for trusted cross-border collaboration in the automotive industry, enabling companies worldwide to participate in Catena-X with confidence.”
Xia Bo, Senior Vice President of Solar and Commercial Product Services, TÜV Rheinland Greater China, emphasized the shared commitment:
“This cooperation between TÜV Rheinland and Catena-X will fully leverage both parties’ strengths in compliance, sustainability, and digitalization. Relying on our international network and professional expertise, we will support OEMs, suppliers, and battery manufacturers in efficiently addressing compliance requirements in digital and green transformation, and jointly promote the development of a sustainable industrial ecosystem.”
Looking ahead, TÜV Rheinland will deepen its expertise in data interoperability, digital compliance, and sustainability in close cooperation with Catena-X. This includes areas such as ISO 27001 information security management system certification, TISAX assessments, PCF (Product Carbon Footprint) verification, supply chain traceability, and Digital Product Passport (DPP) conformity assessment. Together with Catena-X, TÜV Rheinland will help build an open and trusted global automotive data ecosystem, enabling long-term growth and resilience for all participants.
