If you are interested in participating our new Expert Groups “Materials”, you are highly welcome to apply!

What is the purpose of the Expert Group “Material”?

The automotive industry needs accurate and interoperable material data to meet regulations, drive innovation, and ensure transparency, but fragmented standards and isolated systems often hinder collaboration. In order to align material data use across Catena-X and ensure seamless interoperability with IMDS — the de-facto standard used by OEMs and suppliers worldwide — the new Expert Group “Material” is established.

What are the goals of the Expert Group “Material”?

  • Develop a common aspect model for material data, shared across all Catena-X use cases.
  • Ensure interoperability by basing the new aspect model on the IMDS data standard.
  • Enable Catena-X participants to connect seamlessly with IMDS, avoiding duplicate data handling.
  • Foster industry-wide collaboration by allowing companies to operate within Catena-X while still exchanging data with partners that only use IMDS.
  • Align with Tractus-X to ensure broad adoption and compatibility.

Why should you participate?

  • Influence industry standards and directly shape the future of material data interoperability.
  • Enable seamless integration by ensuring the aspect model aligns with the IMDS data model, simplifying data exchange for OEMs and suppliers.
  • Improve efficiency by reducing redundant data handling and supporting smooth collaboration.
  • Be part of a cross-company expert group that fosters innovation and data-driven solutions in material data usage.
  • Strengthen your organization’s role in defining best practices for material data in the automotive sector.

Who should apply?

We are seeking experienced professionals with:

  • Expertise in standardization, aspect modelling, and material data requirements.
  • A collaborative and strategic mindset, with the ability to guide expert groups and align stakeholders.
  • Availability of at least 20 hours per month.
  • Commitment to active participation, including regular online meetings and workshops.
  • Willingness to contribute domain knowledge, validate models, and support testing against real-world use cases.
