Since 1899 WITTE Automotive represents innovative and powerful know-how in technical solutions for locking and actuating systems and has thus developed into a globally operating company group.

Today, WITTE Automotive is among the technological leaders in the field of mechatronic locking systems, and continuously invests in the development of innovative system solutions for doors, hoods and tailgates, interior and seats. The results of the engineering work are the most sophisticated products that uniquely combine mechanics, electrics, and electronics – and can be found in all well-known vehicle brands.

As a family-owned company, WITTE Automotive has always attached great importance to the topic of sustainability. Core aspects of this include climate protection and the associated energy topics, the responsibility in the supply chain and circular economy considerations in the product development stage.

Challenge

WITTE Automotive faces significant challenges and opportunities in addressing the need for standardized sustainability practices. A key hurdle lies in calculating their product carbon footprint (PCF) in a universally accepted, standardized manner, ensuring alignment across the industry. Additionally, they must streamline the communication of PCF values, transitioning from the current one-to-one approach to an efficient, standardized system capable of serving multiple customers simultaneously. This standardized communication must also extend to their interactions with suppliers, fostering greater transparency and consistency across the value chain.

„Supported by SAP's expert teams - many thanks for that - we have gained valuable experience in PCF data management and target towards more automation and scaling.“

Solution

To address the need for standardized sustainability practices, WITTE Automotive implemented advanced solutions with SAP. Using SAP Sustainability Footprint Management, they can now calculate their product carbon footprint (PCF) in compliance with the Catena-X rulebook, significantly reducing assessment efforts through automated data flow from their S/4HANA ERP systems.

Additionally, SAP Sustainability Data Exchange enables seamless management and sharing of PCF data with business partners via the Catena-X network.

To achieve this, the SAP onboarding team collaborated closely with WITTE Automotive’s sustainability and IT teams to ensure a smooth transition to the Catena-X network and successful live data exchange.

Results

3-5x more efficient calculation* compared to manual, excel-based method (*with interface to ERP system)
+10k € Savings per PCF calculation compared to hiring external calculation experts
