Role Overview:

Catena-X is expanding its presence in China, and we are seeking an Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) with a strong international footprint to lead the establishment and strategic growth of our ecosystem in the local market. Concretely, this role will build up the first Catena-X Hub in China, incubating through the Catena-XAssociation over the initial 3-6 months with a dedicated path to take over as Managing Director for this entity including participation in the revenue of the entity. This individual will play a pivotal role in adapting the Catena-X framework to the Chinese automotive sector, engaging key stakeholders, and driving adoption among local OEMs, suppliers, and technology partners.

Key Responsibilities:

• Market Development: Establish and grow Catena-X’s presence in China, ensuring alignment with local industry needs and regulations
• Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with Chinese automotive OEMs, Tier-1, Tier-2 and Tier-n suppliers, government bodies, and industry associations
• Localization Strategy: Adapt Catena-X’s business model, governance, and technological framework to fit China’s regulatory and market environment
• Ecosystem Building: Foster partnerships with digital platforms, data service providers, and IT infrastructure companies in China
• Business & Technical Advocacy: Represent Catena-X at industry events, government forums, and conferences, driving awareness and adoption
• Regulatory Navigation: Work with local authorities and legal experts to ensure compliance withdata security and information-sharing regulations in China
• Operational Setup: Support the formation of a local Catena-X entity or partnerships with Chinese organizations

Qualifications & Experience:

• Local Expertise: Deep understanding of China’s automotive industry, including OEMs,suppliers, digital transformation trends, and government policies
• Proven Track record in entrepreneurship: track record of operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, driving initiatives from concept to execution.
• Industry Network: Proven relationships with key stakeholders in the Chinese automotive ecosystem
• Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with digital platforms, data ecosystems, and supply chain management solutions
• Bilingual Proficiency: Fluent in Mandarin and English, with excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Experience: Minimum 8-10 years in automotive, technology, or supply chain- related industries, ideally with experience in launching or scaling business initiatives in China

Preferred Backgrounds:

• Previous experience with automotive consortia, digital platforms, or industry standards (e.g., Catena-X, or similar initiatives)
• Familiarity with Chinese data security laws (e.g., PIPL, CSL) and industrial policies as well asrelevant Chinese regulatory stakeholders such as the MIIT and CAICT
• A track record of successfully bridging global organizations with the Chinese market

Duties (the two positions can share the work)

• Research
• Writing texts
• Translating documents using translation software and preparing them for publication (if necessary with the help of tools or a design agency)
• Attending meetings and write upü protocols
• Helping to organize and execute events
• Maintaining social media channels
• Structuring and maintaining the website (WordPress). If you don't have any knowledge of this, a willingness to learn or at least to specify the structure of the website and the texts
• Assistance with stakeholder and community management
• Assistance with member acquisition
• Maintaining contacts with other projects and data spaces
• Other or additional tasks are also possible by arrangement

QUALIFICATIONS

• You are studying, communication, social science or another subject in which texts and communication play an important role
• Very good German and English language skills
• Experience in public relations a plus
• Structured way of working
• Analytical skills
• Ability to work independently and remotely
• Willingness to learn
• Organizational skills, initiative, sense of responsibility and ability to work in a team
• At best, knowledge of WordPress or the willingness to quickly and independently acquire knowledge of these
• An interest in Industry 4.0 and data rooms is also desirable, but not an absolute requirement.
