Catena-X in the spotlight at the Automotive IT Congress 2024

The discussions at the Automotive IT Congress highlighted the progress and potential for further transformation and scaling of the automotive industry on a global scale.

At the Automotive IT Congress 2024, Catena-X was the focus of a panel discussion in which leading representatives of the automotive industry emphasized the importance of an open and interoperable data ecosystem for the industry. Oliver Ganser from Catena-X, Julia Mayr from Mercedes and Sven Lorenz from Volkswagen discussed how Catena-X helps companies standardize data exchange, optimize business processes and meet regulatory requirements.

During the discussion, Sven Lorenz emphasized that Volkswagen sees Catena-X as the single future standard. Julia Mayr highlighted the high level of agility that Catena-X enables and Oliver Ganser pointed out the unique added value of the Catena-X ecosystem, which enables seamless collaboration along the entire value chain through its open and collaborative structure.

“Catena-X is not only an important building block, but also a signal to the entire automotive industry – together we achieve more. Be it in the international standardization of CO₂ calculations, in data-driven quality management or in the harmonization of business partner data: Catena-X is already firmly anchored in the industry's digital roadmaps. With our ecosystem, we offer solutions that create real added value for both large OEMs and smaller suppliers,” says Oliver Ganser, CEO of the Catena-X Automotive Network. ”We are proud that Catena-X is productive and achieving a tangible business impact – and this is just the beginning.”

Catena-X also defines itself by the added value it generates for its members. Individual use cases are already being used productively, for example:

  • PCF calculation from SAP and WITTE: The standardized collection and sharing of CO₂ data along the supply chain enables compliant reporting with upcoming international regulations and savings of up to €10,000 per calculation.
  • Quality management at Bosch and BMW: Thanks to a data-driven approach, quality problems with individual components, such as the steering gear or the particulate sensor, can be detected and remedied up to four months earlier, significantly reducing production costs.
  • Business partner data management at VW and ZF: Harmonized business partner data optimizes supply chains, reduces administrative effort and improves resilience.
  • SiGREEN by Siemens in use at BMW: By calculating the carbon footprint of individual components with SiGREEN, emission-related data is integrated across the entire supply chain, enabling standardized calculation and creating transparency.

But these successes are just the beginning. The discussions at the Automotive IT Congress highlighted the progress and potential for further transformation and scaling of the automotive industry on a global scale.
