"We need radical collaboration!"

Catena-X Automotive Network e.V. joined the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos on the 18th of January 2023, Switzerland. Here are our takeaways.

We at Catena-X were invited to join the panel “Accelerating decarbonization through Greenhouse Gas emissions transparency” at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos. The panel was facilitated by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the Smart Freight Centre. Together with Peter Bakker (CEO of WBCSD), Lisa Gibby (CCO of Nestlé), Pablo Ciano (CEO of DHL eCommerce), Jon Creyts (CEO of Rocky Mountain Institute), Peter Spiller (Partner at McKinsey & Company) and Dmitry Mariyasin (Senior Director at UNECE) our Catena-X Chairman Oliver Ganser discussed how emissions transparency can enable the net-zero transition - and how the automotive industry brings this to life.

In summary five points were identified to make this transformation happen:

  1. Mutually accepted calculation methods and semantics
  2. Standardized APIs
  3. Data exchange networks
  4. Verification approaches
  5. Support and training of participants

Catena-X is a collaborative effort and those are all things, we work on.

We need to act and join forces now

Our key takeaways were, that we need radical collaboration to decarbonize our planet. And we need to act now.

Peter Bakker, CEO at WBCSD, said that the Regulatory requirements on accounting and reporting CO2 rules will come faster than we all can imagine. We have to bring this effort into a solution environment to make it marketable and therefore actionable. And with Catena –X and our releases in the upcoming months we are ready for that challenge. Catena-X was also able to connect with more industries at #wef23 like the logistics sector to elaborate how we can join forces in the next couple of weeks.

Catena-X and GBA: A shared vision of continuous data exchange

Furthermore, the Global Battery Alliance launched a proof-of-concept for its Battery Passport. With the aim of establishing a sustainable battery value chain by 2030, the GBA’s Battery Passport is proposed as key to facilitating the rapid scaling of sustainable, circular and responsible battery value chains. Catena-X is the data backbone for the battery passport and the announcement is fully aligned with us. We will work together to bring this battery passport into a solution envirmonment for the automotive industry. It’s all about radical collaboration.
