Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) is one of the core use cases of the Catena-X value proposition, which enables the precise measurement, steering and reduction of CO₂ emissions across the entire value chain. Companies are increasingly under pressure to disclose and manage their emissions – driven by regulatory obligations and rising expectations for a sustainable supply chain.
Catena-X certified PCF solutions are ready for deployment and offer an easy entry point for PCF data exchange. They enable business partners to exchange and manage carbon footprint data across the entire supply chain while ensuring interoperability and data sovereignty.

Why is the PCF Use Case important?
The Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) is essential for measuring, managing and reducing CO₂ emissions along the entire value chain. Companies are increasingly under pressure to account for their emissions and make them transparent – whether it is through regulatory requirements or growing expectations for a sustainable supply chain.
The Catena-X PCF Use Case provides the perfect foundation for this: a standardized, interoperable and digital solution for the trusted exchange of CO₂ data in the value network. With the PCF Rulebook, it provides a binding standard for calculating Scope 3 upstream emissions and a data transfer standard for the transmission of primary data in the supply chain. This enables a precise, comparable and reliable calculation of CO₂ emissions – a crucial step for the sustainable transformation of industry.
The commercial PCF solutions presented are interoperable and offer an easy way to get started with PCF data exchange. They enable trading partners to exchange and manage PCF data along the entire supply chain.
