Catena-X announces Hub and Competence Center in Spain

The Spanish hub is part of Catena-X’s strategy to establish a “network of networks”.

Berlin, Madrid, 21 November 2024 – Catena-X announced the signings of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with SERNAUTO – the Spanish Association of Automotive Suppliers, ANFAC – the Spanish Automobile Manufacturers Association and the Asociación de Empresas Tecnologicas Innovalia (Innovalia) to establish a Spanish Catena-X hub and competence center to onboard the regional automotive sector and activate the local developer community. This initiative aligns with the recent announcements of the North American and Chinese hubs and represents a key milestone in strengthening Catena-X’s global footprint for driving the adoption of its standards and solutions in 2025 and beyond.

The Spanish hub will act as a bridge for collaboration within one of Europe’s most significant automotive regions, connecting local manufacturers, suppliers, and technology providers to the global Catena-X ecosystem. Meanwhile, the Competence Center will play a strategic role in activating the local developer community, to continuously strengthen the open-source foundation for the data space.

Accelerating Adoption and Driving Innovation

The Spanish hub and Competence Center will support Catena-X’s mission to create a truly global data ecosystem by:

  • Driving Adoption: Demonstrate existing and developing use cases and provide assistance in participating in the already productive areas of the ecosystem.
  • Activating Local Developers: Fostering a vibrant developer community in Spain to strengthen the open-source Tractus-X foundation of the Catena-X ecosystem.
  • Facilitating Knowledge Transfer: Ensure timely dissemination of Catena-X releases, standards, and best practices to local stakeholders.

Expanding the Global Network

The Spanish hub is part of Catena-X’s strategy to establish a “network of networks,” connecting regional hubs around the globe. To drive adoption at a local level, hubs like Spain act as local entry points to strengthen the entire ecosystem from bottom-up. It will provide easy access to seamless cross-border collaboration, data sharing, and compliance with evolving global regulations.

"The launch of the Spanish hub and Competence Center is a significant milestone in our mission to create a truly global, collaborative ecosystem," said Frank Göller, Vice President Internationalization at Catena-X. "By engaging with Spain's innovative automotive community, we are not only expanding the international footprint of the ecosystem but also bringing the open-source development to a new level which will benefit the entire industry in 2025 and beyond."
