Why is the DCM Use Case important?

The Demand and Capacity Management (DCM) Use Case addresses a critical need for resiliency in modern supply chain management, particularly in the automotive industry. With increasing complexity and frequent disruptions due to global and local crises, companies large and small face risks such as supply shortages, bullwhip effects, and costly production shutdowns. Current processes often rely on proprietary, manual IT solutions that lack standardization, making data exchange prone to errors and inconsistencies. DCM enables the seamless, secure exchange of demand and capacity information within individual business relationships while maintaining data sovereignty. This approach ensures that changes in demand or capacity are effectively communicated throughout the supply chain, reducing risk for all parties. For suppliers, DCM minimizes the risk of overproduction and bottlenecks by providing greater visibility into customer demand, improving planning accuracy, and fostering more balanced, efficient production processes across the value chain.
